Yesterday the Canadian government abolished the requirement of entry visas for Polish citizens travelling to Canada. The decision was announced at a press conference by the Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Diane Finley. The new regulation comes into force immediately, and Polish citizens are now allowed to stay in Canada without visas up to three months. Apart from Poland, visa requirements to enter Canada have been abolished for Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary, and in 2006 and 2007 for Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Latvia. Currently, only Bulgaria and Romania are the only new EU member states that still need visas to enter Canada. “The visa requirement constituted a slightly uncomfortable aspect of relations between our two countries. Now we can foster them,” declared the Polish Ambassador to Canada Piotr Ogrodziński.
