Wałęsa after heart surgery

Lech Wałęsa is recovering after successful heart surgery in the United States which saw him fitted with a pacemaker. The former Polish President feels fine and announced that he will soon return to an active working life. The operation was performed in the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston and lasted four hours. The first operation was performed on Wednesday but during the procedure American doctors noticed a slightly clogged artery in the heart. The decision was made to postpone the fitting of a pacemaker and fitting him with in a stent (a tiny metal pipe used to restore patency to the artery) prior to the fitting of a pacemaker. On Monday, Wałęsa will undergo some final tests and two days later, if his health permits, he will fly to Mexico where he is to meet with some local schoolchildren. He is scheduled to return to Poland on the 9th March.

True, the word “fitting with a pacemaker” does sound better. I’ll remember that one. I wish my father had such an opportunity to be operated on the heart, he’s got a similar problem but his not a Solidarity hero:/
