Nuclear Power Plant in Poland?

The Polish government wants to build a nuclear power plant in Poland. Rzeczpospolita reports that the Ministry of Economy is preparing the appropriate documents. The  estimated construction costs amount to at least several billion Euro and Poles would have “nuclear power” within 12 years at the earliest. “There is no chance of overlooking nuclear power in the energy sector in the next few years,” said Zbigniew Kamieński, head of the Department of Energy at the Ministry of Economy. According to the Rzeczpospolita a nuclear power plant construction plan will be submitted to the department within half a year. It is not yet known where the nuclear reactor will be built. Żarnowiec, which was taken into account in the 1980s, has been proposed but we will have to wait a little while longer before the final decision is taken.
So far, 90% of Polish energy comes from carbon-fuelled power plants. Among our neighbours only Belarus does not have a nuclear power plant. According to a poll conducted by GfK Polonia for Rzeczpospolita, 56% of Poles are afraid of nuclear energy.
