4-Year-Old Hero

4-year-old Krystian from Łódź is a real hero. Half year ago, when his mother fainted, he called 112 and saved her life. His feat was even noticed in Brussels, where Krystian will receive a special prize from the European Emergency Number Association (EENA – 112). Half a year ago, Krystian’s mother, who suffers from diabetes, suddenly fainted. The frightened boy called the emergency number 112. “My mummy feels ill,” said Krystian to the dispatcher on duty. He could not give his address and hung up. The dispatcher remembered that a month ago she had had a similar call from a child. She quickly discovered it was the same boy, established the address and sent out an ambulance.

Krystian’s 22-year-old mother received the medicine she needed right at the last moment. Without her son’s help, she would surely have died. Everyone was impressed with Krystian’s feat. A few days after the incident, the boy was rewarded by the police with a diploma and some toys. Soon, Krystian will receive a very real prize and not just anywhere, but in Brussels. The European Emergency Number Association will reward Krystian with the Outstanding Citizen Award. Dorota Królak, the police telephone operator who answered the phone from the boy, was also rewarded and will receive a prize for an outstanding number 112 operator.
