No Plastic Bags

BagOn Thursday in several dozen Polish cities the “Day without a plastic bag” campaign will take place. This includes a petition for banning the giving out of free, disposable plastic bags. On the 5th of June on World Environment Day, volunteers on the streets of about fifty cities involved in the project will collect signatures to force through amendments in the law. Organizers are to give out as many as 100,000 ecological, reusable bags with the logo of the campaign: “Don’t take a plastic bag” on the bags. According to official data, over 33,000 signatures have been collected so far with more to be verified. 100,000 signatures are required for a civil project to be sent to parliament. Organizers of the campaign have until the 27th of June to collect the signatures. Inhabitants of capital cities use 1.8 million plastic bags daily. Some chains of supermarkets are also taking part in the campaign with signatures being collected in supermarkets like Carrefour. This chain will withdraw plastic bags on the 5th of June and introduce reusable, biodegradable bags.
