Even though they have no valid ticket on the tram or bus, they are not afraid of ticket inspectors. They just glance at their mobiles all the time to check if an inspector is approaching. But from where do they obtain this information? The source is a special website, which helps fare-dodgers get the better of ticket inspectors in Poznań. The system is available on nagape.pl and is powered by text messages from passengers, who send texts with a particular bus number, and the stop where there might be a possible ticket inspection. Then, the messages get displayed on the website. In this way, Poznań people are fight against high ticket prices. They started the website over a week ago after their councillors announced a rise in ticket prices. According to onet.pl, the site receives over 200 texts a day, whereas the daily number of hits is between 800 and 1200. Interestingly, the Local Public Transport Company (MPK) is not worried about the fact. Why? Sending messages about ticket inspections is legal. Moreover, the website is aimed at enthusiasts of public transport. Thus, its content informs people not only about the ticket inspections but also about delays, stoppages, and engine failures. Moreover, MPK claims that the website is useful for ticket inspectors themselves. “Thanks to the website they learn how to be unnoticed. We monitor the website though. As far as we know, the information published there is often useless: the number of inspectors is huge and they often work in different areas so the website is of no harm to us,” says a MPK spokesperson.
