The Police Say Good-bye

StingSting and his friends did not fail to live up to the expectations of the audience. 50,000 spectators left Śląski stadium with a feeling they had seen one of the best rock bands of all times. Sting with a grey beard, making him look a little like Andrzej Seweryn, greeted his fans with the words (in Polish) “How are you doing Katowice? Good evening”. The rest was in English. Several mexican waves ran through the stadium stands during the performance. The setting was poor, though, with only three screens showing the musicians. Despite this, the fans were overjoyed with the performance. “We have waited many years for the opportunity to see the police”, “they played better than they did on the records, coming here was worth it,” according to fans. Some fans complained about the poor organisation of the event and the bodyguards who did not allow fans to show their emotions to the full. The final tour of The Police will end in August with a concert in Madison Square Gardens. The band stated they are not planning to make any more records as a group and this is their last tour. “We started our first American tour in New York in 1978. Now, 30 years later, the circle will be complete,” said the band members during an interview. The fans have not lost hope and they have set up a website with a petition pleading the musicians to reconsider: www.policedontstop.com. The Police tour called “Live in concert” has made the band memebers over $200 million in profit. Before their last tour the band sold 50 million records. Now, the number is sure to rise significantly.
