Talented Actress?
What is the effect of competition between an outstanding director and cheap TV? Serce na dłoni (Heart in Hand), a new film by Krzysztof Zanussi. A film that should have never been made, according to Polish daily Dziennik. The comedy did not manage to make the audience laugh even once. It seems that the key figure is Doda, the Polish singer who is never far from trouble, controversy or scandal. Zanussi rejected his own idiosyncratic, peculiar style hoping that his new comedy would attract mass audiences who normally enjoy the ‘high-brow’ culture reflected in popular Polish TV.
It is not surprising, therefore, that the cast mainly comprises popular soap (and film) stars like Marta Żmuda-Trzebiatowska, Agnieszka Dygant, Maciej Zakościelny, Bartłomiej Bobrowski, and Borys Szyc, a particular waste of acting talent with regards to the latter. Zanussi has reached a real low bringing Doda on board. It seems that the director and producer reached an agreement with Doda. The famous director allowed Doda to realise her acting ambitions and in return he received some unbelievable publicity. Does the end justifiy the means? Judging by the audience’s reaction, certainly not.
