Sepp Blatter has given Poland an ultimatum: either the Polish Football Federation (PZPN) is reinstated and the temporary custodian appointed by the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) and the Minster of Sport is dismissed or the qualifying matches with the Czech Republic and Slovakia will be deeemd a walkover in favour of those countries. The Minister of Sport Mirosław Drzewiecki appointed the custodian in order to clean up the PZPN. FIFA sent a letter to Michał Listkiewicz, the chairman of the PZPN, stating that the current situation in the PZPN violates the status and regulations of FIFA, and as a consequence FIFA will not allow Poland to play the two 2010 World Cup qualifiers. In the letter, signed by Blatter, it states that if the Polish national team wants to continue playing in the qualifiers its governing body, the PZPN, must regain its full powers. The government and PKOl have until noon on Monday, the 6th October to dismiss the custodian. Europe’s governing body for football UEFA has also backed FIFA’s stance.
