The University of Warsaw wants to be associated with quality and modernity so it has decided to organise a competition to design a new logo and a motto. The competition is the first of many events celebrating the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Warsaw which will be in 2016. “Every significant institution has its own logo and a motto. The University needs something new to celebrate its bicentenary,” says a University spokesperson. The logotype should be simple, modern and one-of-a-kind, the motto should be catchy, clear and unique. “Our hope is for the the design to contain the name of the university in it,” according to the competition rules. University representatives say that it is advisable that the symbols emphasise both the importance of the University as a leading school in Poland but also encourage foreigners to enrol. It is an open competition so anyone can send in their designs for both (or either) the logo and the motto. For more details visit http://www.uw.edu.pl. This winter a countdown clock will appear on campus to show how many days left until 19th November 2016, the 200th birthday of the University of Warsaw.
