Bike Lanes on Floodbanks

Time to Relax

Time to Relax

Poland’s senators have passed the Water Act without any additional amendments. The Act allows citizens to ride a bike along floodbanks. It also facilitates the mapping and construction of cycle routes and hiking trails on dams and in areas that are considered to be at particular risk from flooding. It was proposed that the Water Act would not regulate such issues. Instead, it is concerned with regulation that prohibits work and activities impeding flood protection or that increase the risk of flooding. This does not include cycle routes and hiking trails, which cannot be built in places where such investment might cause environmental damage or increase the risk of flooding. If the stability of the floodbank is at risk, its administrator can introduce a temporary ban on moving around the area. The legislation was initiated by the President and will come into force 30 days after being announced in the Journal of Laws.
