On 30 April Małgorzata Gersdorf was chosen by Polish President Bronisław Komorowski to be the head of the Supreme Court. “The ceremony took place at the Belvedere Palace with the invited guests who were Supreme Court judges and the family of the new head,” according to the Supreme Court website. Małgorzata Gersdorf takes over from Stanisław Dąbrowski, who died in January. This is the first time a woman has filled the position. President Bronisław Komorowski hopes that Gersdorf will enhance the authority of the Supreme Court. He also stated that she was nominated by her peers “because of her authority and skills.” Gersdorf was thankful for the opportunity and explained that this kind of moment is an overwhelming event for a lawyer. “I am grateful for the trust shown to me by other lawyers, the authorities and also for their trust in women.”
