Modlin Airport intends to expand due to the fact that it will need to provide services for 4 million people. The airport authorities want to enlarge the main terminal by 2017. Piotr Okieńczyc, chairman of the airport, claims that, according to forecasts the airport will reach maximum capacity in about three to four years. This year it serviced 1.5 million passengers. Ryanair, the only regular operator in Modlin, will be increasing the number of domestic connections on the Gdańsk and Wrocław route. Next year, the number of passengers is expected to reach 2 million. The terminal capacity is 3 million people. “We wish to sign an agreement for the preparation of the expansion project and we hope construction work can begin in the second half of 2015, and be completed in two years,” says Piotr Okieńczyc. The terminal will be extended on both sides raising capacity to 4 million passengers annually. As regards operators, it appears that no other airlines are willing to compete with Ryanair in Modlin.
