Victory is Sweet

Poland beat Germany in the first game of qualifications for the handball World Cup in 2015, at the Ergo Arena in Gdańsk. The second leg will take place on 14 June. After a fierce game, the Polish handball players managed to beat the Germans in a close Qatar 2015 World Cup qualifier 25:24 (9:12). Six seconds before the whistle, Mariusz Jurkiewicz threw the winning goal. However, Poland owes this victory largely to Sławomir Szmal, who was in inspired form in goal. Poland will take their slender lead into the the second leg to be played on Saturday 14 June in Magdeburg, Germany. What is more, Bartłomiej Jaszka and Krzysztof Lijewski, who were not able to play in Gdańsk, could well return after injury.
