Roman Polański, the renowned Polish film director, has been staying in a rented apartment in Kraków since last Monday. “We do not know when he will be leaving for Paris again,” said Agnieszka Odorowicz, head of the Polish Film Institute (PISF). She added that Polański has always considered himself a Pole and that Poland remains close to his heart. Polański would like to start shooting a new film in his native country in spring of 2015. Both he and French producer Robert Benmussa have already visited three Polish film studios, but the final decision depends on whether or not it might put the film director at risk of being extradited to the United States while working here. “We need official confirmation that he is competely safe in Poland,” said Benmussa. The new film will be based on Robert Harris’ novel “An Officer and a Spy”. The yet untitled production will centre around the infamous Dreyfus affair. Alfred Dreyfus was an officer of Jewish descent in France at the turn of the 20th century; he was denounced a spy and sentenced to prison. Eventually, all charges against him proved groundless. The whole affair is remembered as a one of the world’s greatest miscarriages of justice.
