Polish actress and model Kasia Smutniak has received one of Italian film’s most prestigious honours. Awarded by the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists, the Nastro d’Argento is the oldest film award in Europe and the second oldest in the world. The stunning Polish beauty, who has been living in Italy for many years, was awarded the prize for her lead role in Ferzan Özpetek’s new film “Fasten Your Seatbelts”. European newspapers have written of their admiration and recognition for the Polish actress, who has been building a career in Italian cinema for several years now. Critics agree that Smutniak performed brilliantly as a woman dealing with the tragedy of cancer. “I’m always looking for new roles I’ve never played before, new characters, and most of all new heroines that will challenge me. The more they frighten me and make me uncomfortable, the more I want to play them,” admitted Kasia. The 35-year-old star has also recently appeared in the newest film by Italian masters, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani: “Wondrous Boccaccio”, which is loosely based on Boccaccio’s “Decameron”.
