“Poland is ready to accept Ukrainian refugees,” assured Ewa Piechota, spokesperson for the Office for Foreigners in Poland, on radio RDC. The Office has been monitoring the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine very carefully. Ewa Piechota confirmed that the Office is ready for a sudden influx of Ukrainian refugees. There are 13 refugee camps prepared to accept them. The Office for Foreigners has been contacting local authorities in various parts of Poland to secure possible additional venues that could house refugees, if there is a need to increase the number of currently designated places. The plan also includes potential camps situated at military training bases, if the situation calls for it. This year, 1,300 Ukrainians applied for refugee status in Poland as compared to merely 46 in 2013.
