Manatee in Poland

An ‘Africanarium’ with more than one hundred species of land animals as well as sixty species of coral reef fish has opened in Wrocław Zoo. The zoo now has penguins, crocodiles, hippopotami and manatees. The construction of the ‘Africanarium’ cost PLN 220 million and took two years to build. It is a three-storey building that occupies an area of 1.5 ha. It contains seven large pools filled with 15 million litres of water. The flora and fauna of the African waters are represented in the 170 m long and 70 m wide pavilion. One can also admire different monkey and bird species at the ‘Africanarium’. Separate parts of the pavilion are divided geographically and represent different parts of Africa. Wrocław Zoo was founded in the middle of the 19th century. It is not just the oldest in Poland, it is also the largest. Approximately 600,000 people visit the zoo annually. It is hoped that the number of visitors will double thanks to the opening of this new attraction.
