Local authorities warn of paralysis due to the information revolution taking place within Poland’s electoral system, which the government has planned two months before the May elections. Drafting a list of elligible voters may not be possible in some municipalities. Furthermore, if someone does not appear in the electoral register, they will not be able to vote, and according to local governments this worst-case scenario is highly probable. The problem is so serious that last week the Ministry of Administration and Digitization hosted a closed meeting of local authorities with representatives of the Ministry of Interior. They discussed potential problems associated with electoral procedures in the context of the introduction of new ID cards from 1 March 2015. Additiinal problems stem from changes in the way national registers hold information about citizens.
