“Don’t be afraid of your dreams,” says the 67-year-old Polish kayaker, Aleksander Doba, who completed the longest kayaking expedition across the Atlantic. He has been selected Traveller of the Year 2014/2015 in an online National Geographic poll. Doba kayaked 12,500 km across the Atlantic beginning his journey on 5 October 2013 in Lisbon and finishing on 14 April 2014 in Florida. He spent more than seven months alone on the ocean. “This is a great honour for me, and I’m certainly no underdog for the title. I think I can win it,” said the traveller at the beginning of January. Doba then went on to beat ten other travellers from all over the world to win the title.
