New IVF Bill

New Hope?

New Hope?

The formation in IVF of more than eight embryos will be restricted depending on each woman’s age. What is more, the embryo could also be used after the death of donors, according to the new version of the Bill on the Treatment of Infertility. In all likelihood, the bill will be voted upon in March 2015. The new draft was published recently on the Government Legislation Centre (RCL) website. The bill was drafted in cooperation with the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers. According to the new bill, patients can only use IVF treatment after having used other fertility treatment first for a period of at least 12 months. The exception to this is if “in accordance with current medical knowledge and practice, a woman cannot become pregnant by using other methods”. The earlier version of the bill did not define the period during which other treatments had to be used before using IVF.
