The first direct flight from Łódź to Amsterdam took place on 28 March. This new route will be operated by Adria Airways which has only recently begun cooperating with Łódź airport making the city its base. To attract passengers, the airline is offering tickets for as little as €99 both ways. Bringing Adria Airways to Łódź is crucial for the continual development of the airport as well as the whole region. As well as Amsterdam, the airline also flies to Munich. These two destinations are convenient transit points that will connect Łódź with the world. Mateusz Walasek, a councillor from Łódź, believes that Adria Airways will bring to his city not only tourists but also foreign entrepreneurs tempted by the possibility to bypass Warsaw and shorten their journey. All passengers of the first flight to the capital of the Netherlands received tulips and commemorative cards. The airplane was traditionally welcomed with a water salute.
