Student Grant Changes

Gold Not Enough

It will be no longer possible to be awarded a Ministerial scholarship for good results obtained during the previous year of studies but only for grades which gained from 1 November of the year in which the last scholarship was received. According to the amendment to the Higher Education Act, in order to be granted such a scholarship, it will be necessary to substantiate one’s educational achievements. The possibility of receiving financial support for obtaining a sufficiently high average grade has been eliminated. The most important of the implemented changes is the modification of awarding the scholarship. Above average students, who obtained a sufficiently high average grade, 1 July will not receive smaller scholarships. What will be the necessary requirement for obtaining a scholarship is the student’s outstanding educational or artistic achievements connected with his or her field of study. For example, as far as sports results are concerned, they will not have to be related to the field of study. The new list of outstanding accomplishments will be specified in detail by the directive itself. For example, according to the Act, participating in a World championships or the Olympic Games is no longer enough to be awarded a Ministerial scholarship. On the contrary, it will be necessary to come eighth or tenth, respectively.
