Poverty Risk

The newest data provided by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicate that senior citizens are least affected by the problem of poverty in Poland. However, this is the only optimistic piece of data. The Household Budget Survey shows that in 2014 in relation to 2013 there was an improvement in the financial situation of the average household. At the same time, there were no significant changes within economic poverty. Absolute and relative poverty rates remained at the same level (7.4% in the case of extreme poverty and 16.2% for relative poverty). In the most difficult situation were people living in households who had to live on so-called ‘other non-profit sources’. These are mainly people living on various types of benefits, not including pensions. The most vulnerable group in extreme poverty were families with many children. Another group heavily exposed to the problem of poverty are young people, including children.
