Piotr Gęgotek, head coach of the Polish national swimming team claims that his athletes achieved all their goals during the World Championships in Kazan. Although the USA prevailed over the other countries during the Swimming World Championships, the so-called ‘Red-and-Whites’ also had something to shout about. Piotr Gęgotek admitted that winning three medals in Kazan is good preparation for the Olympics in Rio. He also added that the medals were not a
shock; however, they counted on more during the 100m butterfly. On the other hand, Janek Świtkowski’s performance was a pleasant surprise. “After the World Championships, Poland has energy and optimism to start preparing for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016,” Gęgotek claims. He also adds that Poland has great chances to do well during the Olympics; however, the level of competition has improved the world over. He also emphasised that Poles do very well in relay races. Poland was the only team bar Russia that got to the finals of all men’s relay races. Additionally, 14 domestic records were set in Kazan.
